+ Dress for Success is an ongoing participatory garment, workshop and performance project interrogating white cis-masculine self-presentation as a pre-requisite for power and ‘success.’ Harnessing ‘making’ as a site for valuable exchange, participants are invited to create felted white penis' to be added to the garment, while sharing and discussing their relationships to whiteness and masculinity. In the performance context, participants move through public spaces associated with power, whiteness and/or masculinity while wearing the dress and felting penises, until they are inevitably asked to leave. Dress for Success is invested in the project of queering public space, using humour as a means to instigate critical conversations around whiteness, masculinity and the aesthetics of “success.”
